My skin has developed a sudden hate for me since lockdown began and I’ve had to adapt my skincare routine quite quickly. I stopped reviewing skincare products on my blog a long time ago because changing products left my skin confused, sore and even more sensitive than it already is. But I knew I had to try something different in order to get my skin back under control.
My routine consists of a cleanser & cleansing machine, face mask (three times a week), exfoliator, face mist and drying lotion and moisturiser – it sounds like a lot I know, but without the face mask it takes me no more than 5 minutes.
These products (bar one) have been in my skincare routine for the last 5 months and I wouldn’t switch them out for anything else now.
Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel & Foreo Luna Play Plus Facial Cleansing Brush
The cleansing gel has completely changed my life. It has overtaken my previous face wash which I used for 3 years straight and I will have a nervous breakdown if it ever gets discontinued. Paired with the Foreo Cleansing Brush, these two are the ultimate combination. My skin has never felt so fresh, clean and rid of any dirt until I started using these. You don’t need to use a cleansing brush in your routine, it isn’t an essential, but I found it really helped to reduce my spots and help to remove stubborn makeup that might be left on my skin. The cleansing gel is only £13 on Beauty Bay which is very affordable for the size of the product but the brush is £39 so more on the expensive side but it is the cheapest version of the brush in the range.
Botanical Lab Pumpkin & Papaya Enzyme Daily Exfoliator
This is my newest addition to my skincare routine – my oily skin has been a nightmare through lockdown and I wanted something to remove the dead skin and blackheads. Me being me, thought I was ordering a face scrub but what actually arrived was an exfoliator/toner. With the current lockdown situation I couldn’t be bothered to return the product so I thought I was try it anyway and my god I was blown away. My skin felt so much tighter and drier (if you have oily skin you know how nice this feeling is) so I’ve stuck to it religiously. After I’ve washed my face morning and night I’ll apply the exfoliator on with a cotton pad, followed by this next product.
Mario Badescu Rose Water Face Mist
This is the most refreshing face mist in the whole entire world. This product can be used in your skincare routine, as a setting spray for your makeup or as a refreshing mist throughout the day. I prefer to use this in my skincare routine after my exfoliator twice a day to leave my skin feeling refreshed and hydrated.
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Cream
I read something a while ago that said oily products can counteract oily skin and so I tried this product a while ago a fell in love with it. After using the Rose Water Mist Spray this cream leaves my skin feeling super soft and even more hydrated. If my skin is playing silly buggers and I’m having a bad breakout then I won’t use this cream as I don’t want to overload my skin with products but if for some reason it’s feeling quite dry during the colder windy days then this is great for bringing life back into my skin.
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion OR Drying Cream
I am no stranger to spots and regularly have unwanted visitors on my face who think they can camp there for a good few weeks if I don’t treat them. But Mario didn’t come to play when he created the drying lotion and cream. I’ve used the drying lotion for around 5 months now and honestly it has been my lifesaver. I apply this at night before bed and my spots are usually half the size they were in the morning. I’ve recently bought the drying cream to see how it compares to the drying lotion and I think this is even better! I apply this to my spots before I sleep and they’ve practically disappeared in the morning. It’s a thicker consistency than the drying lotion which might be why it works better but I couldn’t live without these two products now.
Face masks are a huge part of my skincare routine but I thought I’d share my favourite ones in a separate section as I don’t use them everyday. I tend to use a mask 2-3 times a week but which mask I use depends on how my skin is looking and feeling. My favourite masks for hydrating and soothing my skin are The Body Shop Mediterranean Almond Milk with Oats Instant Soothing Mask which is my ultimate favourite and L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Soothing Face Mask. Both products are great for reducing the redness and soreness of my face if I’m having a breakout and leave my skin feeling really hydrated. When my skin needs drying out if I’ve got fresh spots or is feeling particularly oily I like to use L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Detox Face Mask. Finally, if my skin is feeling rough and I wanted to remove the top layer of my skin and freshen it up then I’ll use either L’Oréal Paris Smooth Sugars Nourishing Sugar Scrub or The Body Shop Nicaraguan Coffee Intense Awakening Mask.
