I love a good wedding as much as the next person; the gorgeous ceremony, endless amounts of food and drink and the messy party at the end where your elders start busting some moves on the dance floor until you can’t laugh anymore. But there is just one issue that stumps near enough everybody before a wedding…what to wear?!
The worry of overdressing, under-dressing and even wearing white can really stress out the wedding guests…but I could just be speaking about myself so who knows. But I struggle to find an outfit for a night out, let alone a wedding where there is more than likely going to be a dress code.
I scour the internet for clothes on the daily, if I’m completely honest, so I thought I would show you two websites which I think are great for selecting that perfect dress. One site is on the luxury side which would be lovely if you’re the mother of the bride, if it’s a big family wedding or if you just want to treat yourself. The second will be high street which is more affordable and more in the price range for a dress you might not wear again – but this
The luxury brand I recently came across is Angrila who I believe have a store on Carnaby Street in London but are originally from the US (their website prices are in dollars so I’m just assuming here.) They are a bridal boutique that stock wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and wedding guest dresses too. Having had a look on their website, they certainly are luxury. The cost of the gowns do not exceed lower than $72 for a wedding guest dress so you are spending a few more coins for a dress but if the quality is there, can you really complain?
There were two dresses that caught my eye on the website that I thought would be perfect for a wedding but an outfit you could also re-wear for a fancy occasion such as the theater, a black tie event or even a nice date night.
This burgundy off the shoulder number is a gorgeous dress to wear for a wedding. The colour is suitable for an autumnal/winter wedding with the deep colour it oozes christmas vibes and doesn’t reveal too much that you wouldn’t want to show at a wedding. Weddings are usual more reserved and classy so this classic gown is perfect. There is a variety of colours to choose from in this style so if you love the dress but not the colour you can opt for a lighter, brighter or neutral colour to suit any time of year. At $78.00 this dress doesn’t come cheap but with the choice of re-wearing for a Christmas party, afternoon tea or even a date night to the theater, this dress will certainly pay its way.
This little number is the perfect wedding guest dress for me. It’s shorter to keep you nice and cool during the ceremony (especially during this British heatwave!) as well as giving you some height by showing a bit of leg. The tiny v neck shape at the top is flattering but keeps it modest which is perfect for a wedding and the colour is very summery. The skater style skirt isn’t restricting and again, like the first dress, it will keep you nice and cool during this hot weather. This dress would be perfect for cocktail drinks, ascot, the races or any other occasion you’d see suit! This dress costs $80.00 which is expensive but very worth it for a dress you could re-wear.
$78.00 USD = £60.00 & $80.00 USD = £61.00
The website does charge an extra $25 in shipping fees which is expensive and a lot more than what any other sites charge for postage but I believe this is a tracked delivery service from the States which is no different to paying a custom fee from Kylie Cosmetics for example. But stay tuned for the second part of this blog post where I will share my on a budget site to shop for a wedding guest dress!
