Shopping for an Occasion at MK1

Occasion wear shopping is potentially the most difficult out all of the types of shopping in the world. “Is this too dressy?” “Is this dressy enough?” “Is there a theme?”
In my lifetime the only occasion’s that I’ve had to buy an outfit for was my graduation, Chelmsford Ladies day and a couple of weddings.
MK1 Shopping & Leisure Park reached out to me recently to ask if I’d like to accept their challenge at finding an occasion wear outfit for just £50. I love a good bargain and a challenge even more so I accepted without hesitation.
The shopping park sits right next to the MK Dons football stadium so it can get pretty busy very quickly, so I decided to go along with my friend on a Sunday morning for when the shops opened.
There is a variety of shops available at the park including Primark, JD Sports, River Island, Outlet and many more. As well as clothes shops, there is also a cinema on site along with some restaurants like TGI Friday’s, Frankie’s & Benny’s and Nandos.
Before I started my challenge I took advantage of a nice clean Primark and stocked up on my standard essentials such as hair clips, cotton pads, new tangle teaser, etc. The Primark at MK1 is huge compared to the one in Luton where I live and it’s kept so clean and tidy. It made such a nice change to be able to actually walk around Primark and browse at the stock instead of running in, grabbing what I need, and running out again.
Browsing through New Look, River Island and H&M I didn’t find anything that really stood out to me as occasion wear. Don’t get me wrong, I could have spent a fortune in River Island but it wouldn’t have been for anything acceptable for an occasion like a Christening or a Wedding.
When I stepped into the Outlet however, I was sold. The Outlet holds stores belonging to the Arcadia Group such as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridges along with some stand alone stores such as Quiz Clothing and Ann Summers.
My first ever job was working in Dorothy Perkins so I knew their style wasn’t anything I was going to lean towards for my particular occasion outfit, but they do have some incredible summer pieces such as maxi dresses and midi skirts.
Quiz Clothing on the other hand was a gold mine. They’ve just released their collection with Sam Faiers and there was tonnes of beautiful pieces in gorgeous summer colours like baby pink, cobalt blue and pastel colours.
I decided on a gorgeous lemon blazer and shorts co-ord from her collection and it fit like a dream. I think co-ords are so in at the moment and this outfit could be styled up or down depending on the occasion. The set together is £46.98 but I managed to get student discount which dropped a couple pounds so the challenge was well and truly smashed.
I think you could pair this set with a black or white vest or cami underneath but I really wanted a plain white vest to go underneath the set because it’s a more summery look that I was going for.
I found a plain simple jersey vest from Miss Selfridge which had 20% off which fitted perfectly and was right on budget. For a christening or wedding you could pair this with some white barely there heels or for a blogging event in London you could style it with some white trainers like I did.
And it would have been rude to not celebrate winning the challenge with a Nandos right? The restaurants at MK1 have outdoor seating spaces so if the weather is nice you can sit and eat in the sunshine.
I highly recommend the MK1 Shopping & Leisure Park if you’re looking for a nice shopping day out with food options on site, it’s a great place to go. I would suggest checking when MK Dons are playing though because you will not get parked if they have a match the day you’re planning to go! But it’s very easy to get to, free parking and has everything you need in one palace.
